Nothing says you’re on a Disney vacation quite like Mickey Mouse-shaped food every which way you go in the theme parks! From the classic chocolate-covered Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar to pillowy soft Mickey-shaped beignets; the warm and salty goodness of a Mickey Pretzel right down to the fan-favorite Mickey Waffle – there is no shortage of delightful Mickey Mouse options at the Disney parks to enhance your breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between!
Coming home from a Disney vacation is sad in and of itself – but coming home to ordinary food with no magical shape? Well, that is just salt to our wounds! So, whenever I have the opportunity, I try to sneak some Mickey into our everyday fare. It is amazing how such a simple modification can so effortlessly brighten up our spirits! One of my kids’ most requested meals is “breakfast for dinner.” I personally love those nights too because there are zero complaints and everyone happily eats whatever I decide to make. Our standard menu for these evenings typically includes some sort of variation of fruit, eggs, breakfast meats, hashbrowns, and – the star of the show – pancakes or waffles. Once upon a time our pancakes and waffles happened to be run-of-the-mill circles and squares. But, thanks to the discovery of two of the neatest kitchen appliances ever, I can now serve adorable Mickey-shaped waffles and pancakes for our breakfast dinners. Now don’t get me wrong, I still use the exact same recipe for these pancakes and waffles that I’ve always used. But in their new Mickey Mouse form? Well, we all agree that it takes their deliciousness to a whole new level!
A few years ago, my sister-in-law surprised me with the first of these special appliances for Christmas. My gift from her was a Mickey Mouse Waffle Maker!
She sure does know the way straight to my Disney-loving heart! Needless to say, I was beside myself with excitement and couldn’t wait to put it to work. And, oh boy, have we ever – I have made countless batches of Mickey Mouse pancakes with the help of this little beauty! Now I know what you’re thinking – how could a waffle maker make pancakes? Well, while it’s true that this product is marketed as a waffle maker, we have always found that the end result is definitely much more comparable to the soft and fluffy nature of its pancake counterpart. So, this has been our go-to appliance on the nights that everyone votes for Mickey pancakes.
But, have no fear – if a golden, crispy Mickey with a tender middle is what you’re after, I have just the thing for that. I recently treated myself to the Mickey Mouse Double Flip Waffle Maker, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
This waffle maker is fantastic! It is every bit as cute as it is durable, so easy to use, and incredibly efficient, as it is double-sided and can bake six Mickey waffles at once. And, best of all, the Mickeys look almost identical to the waffles served at the Disney Parks and Resorts. It’s truly a win-win situation with this amazing appliance – a win for the most charming waffles I’ve ever made and, perhaps the biggest win of all, a little taste of the joy and magic of our beloved Disney vacations right from the comfort of our own home.
So, if you find yourself yearning for a dose of Mickey Mouse every now and again, consider adding these appliances to your kitchen arsenal. They are a surefire way to help make any meal extraordinary! And last, but not least, below is my favorite go-to recipe for both the pancakes and the waffles. Enjoy!!
MICKEY PANCAKES AND WAFFLES
Ingredients:
- 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup cooking oil or butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
- In a medium bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in center of flour mixture; set aside.
- In another medium bowl beat eggs slightly; stir in milk, oil, and vanilla. Add egg mixture all at once to flour mixture. Stir just until moistened (batter should be slightly lumpy).
- Pour batter onto grids of preheated, lightly greased waffle baker. Close lid quickly; do not open until done. Bake according to the manufacturers directions. When done, use a fork to lift waffle (or pancake) off grid. Repeat with remaining batter. Serve warm.
